The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced on Thursday that it has renewed its partnership with Walt Disney Company and reached new agreements with NBCUniversal (NBCU) and Amazon. Under the new deal, ABC/ESPN, NBC/Peacock, and Prime Video will broadcast NBA games in the United States from the 2025-26 season until the 2035-36 season. The NBA app will serve as a universal access point, seamlessly guiding fans to watch every national game on Disney, NBCU, and Amazon platforms.
The new media deal will expand the coverage of NBA TV broadcasts, allowing all national games to be watched on widely distributed streaming services such as Prime Video, Peacock, and ESPN's upcoming direct-to-consumer service. This will significantly increase the exposure on broadcast television. Approximately 75 regular-season games will be televised each season, compared to the current agreement which only requires a minimum of 15 televised games.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said, "We are committed to providing exciting NBA games for fans in the United States and around the world." He added, "These partners will distribute our content on a wide range of platforms and help shape the fan experience for the next decade."
ESPN expressed their excitement about the long-term partnership with the NBA and their commitment to delivering top-quality coverage. NBCU also expressed their enthusiasm for working with the NBA and their dedication to entertainment and sports development. Amazon stated that they are honored to provide unique action-packed content to viewers worldwide.
In addition to NBA games, Disney, NBCU, and Amazon have also acquired unprecedented distribution rights for WNBA games. The coverage of WNBA games through broadcasting, cable, and streaming services will significantly increase.
Disney's ABC/ESPN will distribute a total of 80 NBA regular-season games each season, with ABC broadcasting over 20 games (usually on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons) and ESPN airing up to 60 games (usually on Wednesday nights and occasionally on Fridays). ABC/ESPN will continue to broadcast all five NBA Christmas Day games and exclusively cover the national games on the last day of the regular season. They will also broadcast approximately 18 playoff games in the first two rounds each year.
NBCU's NBC/Peacock will distribute up to 100 NBA regular-season games each season, with over half of the games airing on NBC (Sunday and Tuesday nights). They will also broadcast the opening night doubleheader every year and at least two games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Peacock will livestream doubleheaders every Monday night.
Amazon's Prime Video will stream 66 NBA regular-season games each season, including Thursday night doubleheaders starting in January, Friday night doubleheaders, selected Saturday afternoon games, at least one game on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving), as well as quarterfinals and semifinals of the UAE Airlines NBA Cup. They will also broadcast the UAE Airlines NBA Cup Championship game.
The new agreements also include coverage of WNBA games and make NBC and Peacock the home for all USA Basketball men's and women's national team competitions.
